I am very excited to be your child's Spanish I teacher! After a year at the Junior High without Spanish I, I am so pleased that we are offering the course again to eighth graders who are ready to tackle their high school world language graduation requirement.
Spanish I at DeWitt Junior High is equivalent to high school Spanish I. Students who demonstrate proficiency on the comprehensive final exam shall receive the first of their two world language credits required for graduation and shall be eligible to take Spanish II as freshman at DeWitt High School. Because this is a high school course, students can expect the workload and level of rigor to be much higher than in exploratory foreign language classes. Instruction will occur in Spanish much of the time, and students will be expected to use the language as much as possible.
Your child will receive a syllabus on the first day of school that explains necessary materials, classroom and academic expectations, and grading policies and procedures. I ask that students keep this syllabus in their binders so we can refer to it as necessary. If you would like a copy, you can access the syllabus on the Course Information section of my website. Please pay careful attention to the section on grading and evaluation.
This blog is meant to help you understand what is going on in Spanish I. I realize that it can be difficult for parents to remember to check six different classroom websites, so to ease this burden, blog updates will be posted to my Twitter feed. If you'd like to follow me on Twitter, you can search for me @MsFauson.
DeWitt Junior High's Open House is on Thursday, September 12, from 6:00 to 7:15 P.M. I will be using our short time together to talk about performance assessment and graduation requirements. I hope to see you! Finally, if there is anything you would like me to know about your eighth grader as we begin the school year, please do not hesitate to contact me via e-mail.
